Editorial: theory, praxis, and critique of Law in contexts of social transformation
Keywords:
Open access law journals, critical legal studies, socio-legal studiesAbstract
Law cannot be understood independently of the social, political, and economic conditions under which it is produced. Rather than functioning as a neutral system, law actively shapes everyday life by defining frameworks of action and limitation, while also producing hierarchies that affect social groups and territories in uneven ways.
From this perspective, legal knowledge entails practical consequences, and theoretical production is inherently linked to disputes over the organization and meaning of social order. This underscores the importance of academic spaces that critically examine the limits of law, make visible its social effects, and contribute to imagining alternative forms of regulation and social coexistence. It is within this framework that TEORÍA Y PRAXIS SOCIAL UN ANÁLISIS CRÍTICO DE LA SOCIEDAD, the scholarly journal of the Centro de Estudios Superiores en Ciencias Jurídicas y Criminológicas (CESCIJUC), is positioned.
In line with CESCIJUC’s institutional mission, the journal is committed to the democratization of knowledge, the plurality of analytical approaches, and the dissemination of original research addressing socio-legal phenomena from critical and multidisciplinary perspectives. Its open-access model and publication in Spanish reflect an effort to strengthen local and regional scholarly communities and to foster dialogue among situated knowledges in Mexico and Latin America.
